Can I apply?
Enter your immigration permissions and trips abroad. We'll check the residence rules and work out the earliest date you can apply.
Only time after this date counts. Time waiting for a decision does not.
EU/EEA/UK/Swiss citizens don't need permissions — you prove residence with documents instead. You must have held that nationality for more than 5 years.
Your permissions
Copy the dates from each IRP card or ISD letter. Include student stamps too — we'll leave them out of the count, but they help spot gaps.
Trips abroad
Add every trip in the last 12 months, plus any you're planning. The day you leave and the day you come back don't count as absences.
Double-check your result with ISD's official residency calculator before you pay the fee.
Prove your identity — 150 points
Tick the certified documents you can provide. One valid passport is enough on its own.
Residence proofs — 150 points a year
Every year you claim needs documents worth 150 points, including at least one strong official document. Each document must show your name, your Irish address and a date in that year.
Strong official documents — 100 points: bank statement (at least 3 transactions a month for 3 months), Employment Detail Summary or P60, DSP contribution statement, employer letter confirming dates.
Supporting documents — 50 points: utility, phone or credit card bills, tenancy agreement, GP or hospital letter, letter from a school, housing authority or IPAS.
